Country-led investments drive sustainable progress in the fight to End TB

The Global Fund’s 2025 Results Report underscores the power of country-led, results-driven investments.

Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases and a persistent global health threat. Its impact is magnified in fragile settings where health systems are under strain from conflict, climate shocks, and displacement. Interruptions in TB care not only endanger lives but also fuel drug resistance, undermining global health security.

The Global Fund’s 2025 Results Report underscores the power of country-led, results-driven investments. Since 2002, Global Fund-supported programs have saved 70 million lives and reduced deaths from AIDS, TB, and malaria by 63%. In supported countries, TB deaths dropped by 40% between 2002 and 2023, thanks to stronger diagnostics, prevention, and treatment networks.

Treatment coverage for TB has reached a record 75%, and 91% of people living with HIV who contract TB now receive antiretroviral therapy. Yet, care gaps persist: only 44% of people with drug-resistant TB receive appropriate regimens, and millions remain undiagnosed or untreated.

"This report demonstrates that solidarity counts, global financing mechanisms deliver and country-led investments save lives while keeping the world safer from infectious diseases. We are deeply grateful to global leaders and donors for their trust and commitment to this shared mission.”

As countries face reduced funding allocations, reprioritization within the grants is being implemented to safeguard essential TB services, optimizing  resources, integrating services, and aiming for sustainability with country resources. KNCV is actively supporting national TB programs (NTPs) through KNCV ACTS Project: Accelerated Coordinated Technical and Programmatic Support for Country-led TB Response. This initiative helps countries stabilize core services, maintain continuity of care, and implement high-impact interventions.

KNCV also contributes to strategic planning and innovation, helping countries adopt cost-effective diagnostics, treatment regimens, and digital health solutions. Its work aligns with reprioritization guidance from the Global Fund, ensuring that essential services are protected even amid budget constraints.

“In the face of today’s financial pressures and ongoing health challenges, global leadership and investment in the Global Fund are needed now more than ever, such that countries continue to advance the fight to End TB, HIV and Malaria, and build a healthier, safer world for all"

To meet global targets by 2030, we need resilient health systems built on country-led strategies, sustained financing, and a focus on results. Global funding mechanisms like the Global Fund have delivered results, proving that this model works. Major global strategies, such as reducing TB incidence and deaths by 2030, require that global leaders, private sector and large economies reaffirm their financial commitments now.
