AI chaTBot 2.0

Contributing to the dissemination of knowledge about TB, without language barriers and free from stigma.

title

In 2024, KNCV TB Plus, in collaboration with Dimagi, conducted a pilot project to investigate whether AI technology can help us inform the general public about tuberculosis (TB) in a non-stigmatizing, accessible and simple.

The aim of this pilot project was to explore the use and generate learnings on the use of AI-enabled chatbots to improve knowledge of TB among the general public in the Netherlands, with an emphasis on migrants with different language backgrounds.

We previously communicated about this project on the KNCV website where the evaluation of this pilot project showed that the chatbot can make a positive contribution to informing the general public.

Way forward

After the 2024 pilot project, there were still details needing improvement, such as the language skills of the chatbot in languages other than Dutch or English. A follow-up project was set up to work on this and expand internationally: The AI Chatbot 2.0.

AI Chatbot 2.0

For the AI chatbot in the Netherlands, we will take the lessons from the pilot and optimize the chatbot in the coming months. We may also ask professionals from TB prevention and care in the Netherlands to do a test and help us shape a better AI tool for people with TB.

The goal is to have a final version of the chatbot online by the end of 2025, which can contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about TB, without language barriers and free from stigma.

For international settings, we are looking in this project at whether a chatbot can play a role in advising doctors in the treatment for people with complicated multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB).
