Strengthening TB care for children and adolescents in Tanzania

Key interest-holders and partners working in tuberculosis (TB) care and child welfare in Tanzania participated in the dissemination workshop under the SMT-funded project "Ensure no child suffers from TB through EARLY detection, RIGHT diagnosis, and RIGHT treatment" on June 20, 2025.

On 20th of June 2025, a dissemination workshop was held by KNCV Tanzania, and KNCV TB plus in partnership with the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Programme (NTLP) of Tanzania. This initiative was organized under the SMT-funded project “Ensure no child suffers from TB through EARLY detection, RIGHT diagnosis, and RIGHT treatment.

Key interest-holders and partners working in tuberculosis (TB) care and child welfare were invited to participate in this workshop.

Before the workshop, the NTLP conducted a comprehensive self-assessment using the KNCV benchmarking and planning tool for TB in children and adolescents (Find the downloadable tool below). This tool evaluates current efforts to improve TB service delivery, early detection, and timely treatment of TB in children and adolescents, and establishes effective interest-holder coordination.

During the workshop, the KNCV and NTLP presented the results of the comprehensive self-assessment, to validate the findings and to develop a strategic roadmap to help meet national targets. This roadmap outlines concrete actions to strengthen early detection, accurate diagnosis, and appropriate treatment services, while also integrating social welfare support for families to improve the quality of life for children and adolescents affected by TB in Tanzania.
