KNCV expands efforts to end TB with first francophone workshop in Chad

N’Djamena, Chad – On 15 August 2025, KNCV TB Plus, in collaboration with the Chad National Tuberculosis Program (NTP), successfully held its first workshop in a francophone country, marking a milestone in the global fight to End TB.

With financial support from the SMT project "Ensure no child suffers from TB through EARLY detection, RIGHT diagnosis, and RIGHT treatment", we recently conducted the first workshop in a French Speaking country introducing the Benchmarking and Planning Tool for Childhood and Adolescent TB, aiming to address low detection and treatment rates, particularly among children, where case notification remains only 7%.

This workshop was informed by a desk review and field missions to N'Djamena and Massakory, Chad, where consultants worked with provincial and hospital teams to pilot the tool, collect data, and assess on-the-ground realities of pediatric TB detection and care. The findings from these missions enriched the workshop discussions, ensuring that national strategies are grounded in field-level experience.

About the workshop

The workshop was conducted on August 15, 2025, and was led by KNCV consultants and Chad’s NTP, gathering TB focal points and health professionals from across the country. Together, they identified solutions to strengthen diagnostics, expand preventive treatment, and enhance community engagement, a critical priority as Chad faces increasing health demands, including from refugee populations.

Importantly, this workshop represents only the second step in a broader initiative. The project envisions continuous exchange of ideas, experiences, and knowledge across countries, with the goal of ensuring no child is left behind in TB care.
