From Generation to Generation: Reflecting on legacy and inspiring the next chapter

On December 8, KNCV TB Plus hosted a significant event attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, our esteemed patroness, alongside some of KNCV supporters and interest-holders committed to see a world free from tuberculosis (TB). This gathering reaffirmed the principles that have kept the mission of KNCV strong for over a century: collaboration, innovation, and a supporting force.
For decades, the Netherlands has stood at the forefront of TB prevention and care, driving innovation, development, and advocacy that resonate worldwide. From pioneering research in diagnostics, vaccine development and treatment regimens to shaping global health policies, Dutch leadership has been instrumental in strengthening health systems and improving responses to TB and other infectious diseases. These achievements are not possible without the steadfast support of our partners, donors and supporters, whose contributions empower us to continue this vital work.

The event underscored the importance of engaging new generations in the fight against TB. As global health challenges evolve, inspiring young advocates, supporters and professionals ensures that our mission endures. Renewed energy and ideas will help us build resilient health systems and accelerate progress toward a world free of TB.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands; Dr. Gidado Mustapha, KNCV Executive Director; Anneke de Boer, longstanding donor of KNCV; Dr. Max Meis, TB expert and Public Health consultant; Margaretha Bijleveld, TB survivor and researcher; and Maaike Snoek, researcher at Openlucht Museum. Through their words, we were not only able to take a look back in time on TB history in the Netherlands, but we also heard stories that still matter today, scientific advancements that shape the way we approach TB and the inspiration to continue working towards a world free from TB.

Reflecting on our journey over the past year and the current global health landscape, we recognize that collaboration is the cornerstone of success. A collective commitment is needed to overcome barriers and seize opportunities in global health. Together, we can transform lives not only in the Netherlands but across the globe.
Our work is impossible without you. Thank you for standing with us as we continue to make the world a safer and healthier place for future generations.
